Odoo 20 launch: comprehensive AI automation and GST upgrade for Indian SMEs
The latest version of the business management platform delivers breakthrough improvements in automation, e-commerce, and India-specific compliance features.
Odoo 20 overview: more than just an ERP update
Odoo 20 isn't a routine technical upgrade. This release reflects the global digital transformation trend where small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need a single platform connecting everything — accounting, sales, CRM, inventory, manufacturing, e-commerce, and marketing.
Showcased at Odoo Experience India 2026 in Gandhinagar, Odoo 20 brings two major groups of improvements: global features and India-specific capabilities.
Global features: AI and automation go operational
AI automation in business processes
Odoo 20 expands automation directly within workflows. AI can work with business data, create and update records, and execute tasks within the platform — without employees moving information between separate tools. The biggest change for businesses is that automation happens inside the ERP workflow itself, reducing manual work and errors.
E-commerce and websites: unified management
Odoo 20 adds tools for creating and managing website and e-commerce content, including AI-assisted editing and content generation. Businesses can manage their digital presence alongside other operations rather than treating websites or online stores as completely separate systems.
Marketing automation connected to the customer journey
AI assists with campaign creation and social media post writing. Businesses can build workflows around events and customer actions. The focus isn't just on generating content — it's about connecting marketing activities more closely with the entire customer journey.
Core improvements: CRM, sales, inventory, manufacturing, accounting
Odoo 20 also delivers improvements across CRM, sales, inventory, manufacturing, accounting, and other business applications. The goal is to keep information and processes connected within a single platform.
India-specific features: GST, TDS, and financial reporting
Expanded GST Composition Scheme support
Odoo 20 extends support for businesses operating under the GST Composition Scheme. The update includes workflows for composition taxpayers and returns such as CMP-08 and GSTR-4. It also adds GST QRMP workflow support for eligible businesses.
For smaller businesses, these additions bring more GST-related accounting processes into the same system used for everyday financial operations.
More flexible TDS workflows
Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) also receives an update. Odoo 20 provides different options for handling TDS and payments, including TDS & Payment, TDS Only, and Payment Only. This gives businesses more flexibility when managing vendor transactions and tax deductions according to their actual accounting processes.
Import costs that follow the product
For companies importing raw materials, components, or finished products, the purchase price is only part of the final inventory cost. Odoo 20 introduces a Bill of Entry flow for imported goods. Customs duty can then be included in inventory costing through landed costs, connecting import-related costs more closely with inventory management and giving businesses a clearer picture of what products actually cost.
Schedule III financial reporting
Odoo 20 also adds support for financial statements aligned with the presentation, classification, and disclosure requirements under Schedule III, Division I of the Companies Act. This means the India-specific update goes beyond GST transactions and extends into financial reporting as well.
New pricing: 20% reduction for Standard and Custom plans
Odoo 20 comes with more flexible pricing plans:
| Standard plan | ₹580/user/month |
| Custom plan | ₹1,080/user/month |
| Light User plan | ₹195/user/month |
Both Standard and Custom plans reflect a 20% reduction from their earlier annual prices. The Light User plan is available for employees who need lighter access.
Why does Odoo 20 matter for Indian SMEs?
For an Indian SME, accounting, inventory, sales, and compliance are rarely isolated activities. A purchase affects inventory. An import affects product costing. A vendor payment may involve TDS. A transaction may have GST implications. Financial reporting ultimately depends on information collected across all these activities.
Odoo 20 brings more of these processes into one connected environment. AI and automation are part of that evolution, but the broader change is about reducing disconnected workflows while giving businesses more tools to manage finance, operations, sales, marketing, and compliance together.
The bigger picture
Odoo 20 combines a broad set of global ERP improvements with deeper localization for the Indian market. For businesses, the update isn't simply about adopting a new technology feature — it's about making the software that runs everyday operations more connected while accounting for the specific GST, tax, and reporting requirements Indian companies deal with.
For Indian SMEs and companies evaluating ERP software, Odoo 20 brings both sides of that equation together: broader business automation globally and more India-specific capabilities where they matter most.
